The Wide and Narrow Gates (Matthew 7:13-14)

God or Money (Matthew 6:19-24)

Jesus teaches us that we can not serve (worship) both God and money. We should lay up treasures in heaven, not only on Earth.

“When You Fast” (Matthew 6:16-18)

“And when you fast….” Jesus expects His disciples to fast and pray. The question is not, “Should I fast?” Instead, we should ask, “When and how do I fast?”

Prayer and Forgiveness (Matthew 6:14-15)

“For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses” (Matthew 6:14-15).

“Deliver Us from Evil” (Matthew 6:13)

“And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil” (Matthew 6:13). All of the evils we face matter to God.

To Obey Is Better than Sacrifice

As we begin Lent, some will place a lot of emphasis on what they are giving up. Let us remember, though, that “To obey is better than sacrifice.”

Confession, repentance, and forgiveness are essential components of prayer.
