“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

“Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11).

Today I share a few thoughts about the election and Christians’ relationship to the church, government, and society, inspired by the insights of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

The foundation of our Christian life and prayer is worship.

Prayer extends beyond just ourselves and God. We pray for others, including those we may not like, and we pray with others.

Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind” (John 9:39).

Prayer is a dialog. It does not end after we recited our requests to God and said “Amen.” He is with us all day, and we can expect Him to speak to us always.

This post introduces a series about prayer, which will look at some of the elements of prayer, styles of prayer, and related issues.
