
How does Jesus see our worship when it seems extravagant, fanatical, or impulsive?

Today’s devotion is a brief reflection on law and grace from the writings of St. Augustine on his feast day.

“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on”

How do you imagine heaven?

“And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you for your offenses”

Since some people believe Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 5 conflicts with Paul’s teaching about salvation through faith, I share thoughts on the meaning of faith based on a theory about behavior and attitudes from psychology.

But it is not this way among you; rather, whoever wants to become prominent among you shall be your servant; and whoever wants to be first among you shall be slave of all.

The rich young man would not accept Jesus’ call to sell all he owned, give the money to the poor, and follow Him. How would we respond? What do we hold onto that keeps us from following Jesus wherever He leads?
